The Start

In 2015 I had an idea to create instrumental music as Bare Heights with the purpose to encourage any listener to stop and be refreshed and refilled. This was clear to me. 

What wasn’t clear to me were the ensuing hurdles that would challenge the launch of this idea. Deep in me I knew what I wanted to do, but life gave me different obstacles. What followed was 5 of the most challenging years of our life. We started 2 businesses simultaneously that produced mounds of work and hustle. There were times that were overwhelming. Along with that, our family faced numerous challenges that consumed us. Problems that we had no idea how to handle. (There are no user manuals to starting a family, you just do your best, roll with the punches). While working 10-12 hour days, our family faced daunting mountains. At times we felt crushed by the weight of it all. It seemed so bizarre to try to add to that AN ALBUM OF REFRESHING MUSIC! 

All of this pressure peaked in late 2021 when a friend challenged me to consider what was important and to consider re-prioritizing our life. How could I let go of these things that I had worked so hard to attain? Should I let go? 

This spurred one of the most confusing years in 2022. All of the pressure, pain and confusion overflowed like a sewer line overflowing in a backyard (which happened to us during a remodel. I’m telling you it was disgusting) and this was disgusting. It was an outpouring of years of trial. It was an overflow of hard things.

This song comes out of one of the hardest seasons and spits in the face of everything that was meant to ruin and harm us and force us to stop. We will not stop, this is just THE START.

Many thanks to my best friend and love of my life Erin Ruth who always encourages my craziest ideas and allows me to be myself. You speak life into me and I wouldn’t be who I am without you.
